Sibelius’ mighty Symphony No. 2 suggests an expansive winter landscape, arctic sunshine, icy winds, and majestic mountains; but it also expresses courage, defiance, and resistance. Haydn’s energetic Sinfonia concertante provides the rare opportunity to see four ESO musicians featured as soloists, all in the same piece.
