Circle Tour: Airdrie to Stettler – Foothills, Fairways & Prairie Heritage
From the Rockies to the Railways | South Central Alberta Road Trip
This South Central Alberta circle tour runs from Airdrie into the prairie hub of Stettler, looping through foothill towns, golf greens, ranchland, and heritage main streets. It’s a drive where the foothills meet the grain belt, and where every stop holds a piece of Alberta’s story.
What makes this tour special? It ties together recreational escapes in the west with heritage-rich communities in the east — all within a day’s ride.
🌲 From Airdrie to Stettler: Foothills & Country Roads
Head northwest from Airdrie into ranching country around Crossfield, Madden, and Dog Pound Community Hall. Continue west through Cremona, Sundre, and Bearberry, where foothill forests frame fishing spots, trails, and cowboy culture.
Cut east across the region through Caroline, Spruce View, and the Beaver Dam Golf Course, a local favourite for a rest stop. From Innisfail to Water Valley, you’ll find rolling hills, small cafés, and weekend markets. The loop finishes into Stettler, a prairie hub built on railway history.
🚂 Return from Stettler: Rail Towns & Prairie Pride
On the eastern loop, head out of Stettler and through Big Valley, famous for its historic train station, and Botha, a small town with vintage prairie charm. Continue through Byemoor, Huxley, and Trochu, each holding onto their farming roots and proud main streets.
Further west, roll through Three Hills, Didsbury, and Carstairs, all offering small-town Alberta hospitality before looping back into Airdrie, closing a circle that balances foothills with flatlands.
